The Community Service Team of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), consisting of lecturers and students from the Biotechnology Study Program, Department Applied Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences, held a training on making liquid organic fertilizer from vegetable waste to fertilize plants in Malangsuko Village, Malang Regency. This activity was carried out directly at the Malangsuko Village office, last Wednesday (10/7) and was attended by Family Welfare Empowerment women from Malangsuko Village. This activity supports SDGs 3, 7, 8, and 15.
Mrs. Yetti Sholeh as the head of the Family Welfare Empowerment of Malangsuko Village, expressed her thanks to UM for the presence of lecturers and students of Biotechnology, FMIPA for this training in making liquid fertilizer because there has been no use of household vegetable waste before, so this training is very suitable for the target, “said the head of Family Welfare Empowerment”. Therefore, the Community Service Team, led by Ratna Juwita Ph.D, innovated by making vegetable waste into liquid organic fertilizer for environmentally friendly agriculture to support SDGs number 3 and 7.
This liquid organic fertilizer processing activity supports the restoration of damaged land and the preservation of biodiversity in terrestrial ecosystems (SDGs number 15). This training also provides new ideas for Family Welfare Empowerment women in entrepreneurship. The Family Welfare Empowerment mothers in Malangsuko Village, Malang Regency were very enthusiastic about participating in the training and mentoring activities as seen from the various questions asked by the training participants. Each participant who attended was given a short tutorial on how to make liquid organic fertilizer. Ratna hopes that after this training ends, Family Welfare Empowerment women can practice liquid organic fertilizer themselves at home and hope that one day it can become a product for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in Malangsuko Village so that it can increase the economic growth of Malangsuko Village residents (supporting SDGs number 8). “We provide a set of fermenters and also provide the results of our products which we have produced ourselves on a small scale to representatives of the training participants,” she said. Ratna also hopes that this training activity can improve the skills of Family Welfare Empowerment mothers in Malangsuko Village. “From the results of the survey that was completed by the participants, the results showed a desire for more training to be held by utilizing the potential of other villages,” she concluded.
